The knife is a lego block
by Hansika Jethnani
my alarm rings
every ten minutes
after twelve pm
i fall into a dream between them
walking up steel stairs
waltzing through beige corridors
i am suddenly having hazelnut coffee
before my two pm meeting
i cannot tell if i am asleep or wandering through my day
i wash my dishes while i fall into a conversation with my alter ego
replaying incidents holding two sides to every story,
i am swallowed by sentences they carry
i cut my vegetables like i am one
and the knife is a lego block
i am trying to decipher
i watch the sun disappear behind grey buildings
oozing of tired jaws
i bask in twilight lingering on my bed
i cook like it is all i have a care for in the world
i slip between silence on the couch
gnawing
i watch the sunrise for the tenth day in a row
